The Kiniun Blog: ENTRY 2 – FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST, ASSEMBLE!
We can agree that the fictional superheroes we know and love often carry a grand objective to save the world. But only one non-fictional superhero claims to have actually done it.
We know what He claims to have done, but who does He claim to be?
Like Superman – the quintessential superhero himself, who presented himself as a bumbling, unassuming newspaper reporter, instead of the caped Kryptonian he was – Jesus Christ presented himself as a carpenter, though there was more to Him that met the eye. Interestingly, His choice in vocation may not have been a random decision. After all, let’s face it, the world was unaware of the gaping chasm between us and the Father. Who better than a builder to repair and construct a sturdier and lasting bridge, back to the Father?
Even though Christ showed up as a carpenter, He was a man on a mission, carrying immense power as the physical manifestation of God on earth. So, He claims to be God on earth and then disappears into a cave somewhere, never to be seen again? NO! He sets out to lay credence to His claim:
- Healing people
- Raising people from the dead
- Feeding thousands, instantly.
The bad guys kill him, but he has an ace up His sleeve by coming back to life, achieving His goal for mankind by that singular act of resurrection. Then…in true superhero style, He takes to the sky!
But here’s the kicker, before He ascends, He tells His followers that they’ll do even greater things than He did, passing the proverbial baton to us.
John Chp 14 v 12 – ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.’
So, my question is…at what point will we – as followers of Christ – gear up to do what Christ said we will do? It doesn’t matter if you don a cape of supernatural knowledge, wield the hammer of uncanny discernment, or swing the lasso of extraordinary faith.
It’s been thousands of years since He gave us this mission. I think it’s about time we showed up to the party.
